Is there any adjustment to the rod or mechanism? It requires a really hard pull way up on the handle to open the door. Passenger side is normal. 1971 Cutlass.

You're sure it isn't the striker assembly located on the vertical door hinge? With the door open, is the handle really hard to pull up? I'm thinking maybe the striker plate (latch) has shifted and when the door is latched into position the door handle rod isn't aligning properly?

EDIT: That post was poorly written. I said vertical door hinge, when I actually meant vertical door post. Although, it is possible the door hinges themselves have slipped?

Striker bolt adjustment question

 

I'll check it out. Thanks. The handle is hard to pull w/ the door open & if I just snap the latch closed w/ a screwdriver. Next spring, I may have to pull the door panel & investigate.

 

Do you know if the handle mechanism is a repro part or the original GM? I've seen a lot of variation in the effort to pull (and the release point) in the reproduction parts. Originals are much more consistent and seem to operate with less force.
