Does anybody know?🤔

Looking for a factory correct OEM flasher for a spare for my '72 Supreme. Is part #6450089 correct?

In the 1972 Olds parts book it lists # 383627 as the flasher for turn signals in group 2.892 .
It lists # 3883794 as the hazard warning flasher in group 2.575 .
I found # 6450089 in GM parts wiki , and it fits 1980's models .

What's the difference in the "groups"?

The group number designates what the part is used for .
Turn signal flashers are in group 2.892 .
Hazard flashers are in group 2.575 .

You didn't specify which flasher you were talking about , so I gave you info about both .

So are there two separate flashers?.

Yep, two distinctly different flash modules. One mounts to the fuse block, the other is up under the dash, nearer the steering column.

www.gmpartswiki.com is your friend. You can take the number and reference is against legacy numbers on Rock Auto if you'd like, or you can search for the NOS part on eBay. The turn signal flasher is in the dash to the left of the steering column if you're sitting in the seat. The emergency flasher is in the upper left corner of the fuse block under the dash.

No, not in the GM parts book.
There may be cross references to those numbers in an aftermarket manufacturer's parts book .
68RocketAction has made the parts books available to all of us as a free download .
Thru 1975 - Oldsmobile Illustration Catalog - ClassicOldsmobile.com
and
Thru 1975 - Oldsmobile Chassis and Body Parts Catalog - ClassicOldsmobile.com

Use the illustration book to find a group number and then go to that group in the parts catalog to find the part number for your year and model .

Do the turn signal flasher and hazard flasher function differently, or would the same part number work for both?

Yes, they should be interchangeable. I worked in auto parts stores in high school / college and as long as the prongs were the same orientation the flasher units were interchangeable.
If you look up a flasher on any parts store web site, the listing shows one part with "turn signal / hazard flasher" as the description.

I keep coming up with SF552 and 6450089 as cross reference part numbers...does that sound right?

One of the listings I saw on a parts web site had “Loud” in the notes section.

Don’t forget the key buzzers too. They are harder to find, because we all yanked them back in the day.
seat belt buzzers too. Lol.

I never yanked the key buzzer, but that seat belt buzzer was awful. Then I had a hard time finding one to replace it, Now it’s music when I go for a run, first the key buzzer, then borlas, then the seat be,t buzzer, then t tops off, no radio. Who’d a thought.

It's usually mounted in a clip that can leave you with bloody fingertips if you're not careful...
