Craigslist Requires a fee?
So, does CL require a $5 posting fee now? There's no way in HE!! I am going to pay money to CL to get scam calls all night and all day. I guess I am posting my Olds for sale on Classiccars.com or Hemmings.

Yep, $5 for 30 days and you have to pay with a credit card.

Yes, here to. I listed a 06 GMC Canyon, with a bad tran, I listed it, and as soon as the add came up I started getting phone calls, about 15,in a half hour, and about 10 emails, sold it in 15 minutes, Guess I had it listed to low of a price? It was a surprise to see the fee, but the truck is gone. I have posted some free stuff, and at least they are still free, not sure about other items for sale?

I have had a fellow out of San Antonia contact me but haven't had any spam on it. I NEVER leave a phone # on an ad that I have, they need to contact me through Craig's. Cars and cycles are all they charge for, the parts for sale ads are free for the time being.

I got around the fee by posting my Starfire for sale under the Antiques section. I haven't gotten any spam, and only one person called. I'm not too keen on paying the $5 (I am a notorious cheapskate), especially considering that I realize a classic car is a niche market. If I'm going to pay for an ad, it'll be with Hemmings after the calendar year turns over.

I posted my '78 Trans AM on CL. I had no issues with paying the 5 bucks. Cheap price to pay $$$ wise. That is how the T/A went away. I never posted my phone #. If someone wanted to contact me it was thru the CL message system. Never really had any issues. Just the normal "what's your bottom line price?" without ever looking at the car. I just told them I wasn't going to bid against myself and to either make a reasonable offer and / or come look at the car.
With that said, I sold the '72 El Camino thru a local classic car consignment dealer. Sold in three weeks. They listed it on 20-30 national websites. Many of which require a payment, as well. What is interesting is, they offered the Multi-site listings as a $ 150.00 option. I declined that opportunity as I figured they don't make any $$$ if they don't sell the car so they would post it up anyway. Which they did.

I read that the $5 fee was as much to prevent people from posting the same ad on multiple craigslist sites (or at least make them pay for the privilege of doing so) as anything else, but I can see trying to stop scammers as being another top priority. I don't think the fee is much of a burden. If you want to put an ad in the local paper, you certainly have to pay for it, and it will likely be more than $5 and probably much more if you want to include photos. It also won't reach anywhere near the audience that craigslist does. The ability to post pretty much as many photos as you want on craigslist for the $5 is quite a bargain.
If anyone thinks they're being asked to pay for "scam calls all night and day," then would you have put an ad on craigslist back when it was free? Wouldn't that also have resulted in scam calls all night and day, too? Wouldn't posting an ad in the local paper also possibly result in scam calls? Having to put up with the riffraff is par for the course in the selling world. If you don't want to put up with it, sell your car at Mecum or Barrett-Jackson.

Apparently it's only for used cars sold by private sellers. Car dealers have had to pay a fee since 2013. According to this article, this policy is not recent and actually went into effect last April. $5 buys a 30-day ad. Then it's $5 for each additional 30 days.

Hi,
I posted a car for a friend and was also surprised, ended up putting it under parts, no fee and still got calls, even a few comments about it no being in the car section
Either way car got sold.
