Correct paint.

Can anyone tell me where I can get the correct black paint so I can refurb my air cleaner? I do believe the same color was used on frames and anything else that was black under the hood. I want to be as correct as I can be here. We've all seen restored cars at shows that have that "over restored" look to them. I'm trying to stay away from that.

I've used Rustoleum paint on my air cleaner. It was gloss black and I'm sure it looks better than the original (which I know is not the desired effect you're looking for). I think that a satin finish, should bring it closer to the original and I may make the change...

You may want to try a semi-gloss paint if you don't want it too shiny or too flat. Satin will work too.

I've heard semi-gloss black from your local auto parts store is the best way to go. I've used it on engine brackets and it is "close" to the original. You might check out Fusicks, they probably have an over-priced can of spray paint in semi-gloss black that you could buy if you "must" be "original."
