Correct 1968 trunk splatter ?

The time has come to pick the splatter paint and I'm a bit confused...

Most places claim '68-'72 used the black/gray/aqua, but I swear my trunk was black with light gray flecks - no aqua.

A little diggling/googling seems to show that paint color varied by year, plant location, make, etc...

Seems that the black/gray might have been a carry over from '67 and '69 & up cars got aqua almost exclusively. '68 is kind of a mystery...

Can anyone confirm what a late build (April '68) Lansing built car would have ??

I can't really tell from my tear down pics. I saved a small piece of the qtr panel ...but lost it sometime over the years so I'm appealing to CO!

My '68 442 which is has an October build date has black/gray trunk splatter paint. From what I can tell the trunk paint is original.

I've spent alot of time duplicating original trunk paint for my customers. After looking at many original trunks from 68 to 72 I don't see any differences from year to year. However there are dramatic differences from car to car. My thoughts are that the low quality of the paint and how it was applied drifted far from perfect. The color of the backround is really dark blue/gray and the spots most of the time are light gray/aqua. These colors faded very easily and the factory didn't have tight contol of the color. So the short answer is almost anything is correct.

Thanks for the info...

After checking with another April '68 built car owner, I think mine originally had black/gray/aqua, but the aqua during that particular time was very light making it look like just gray/black...and I'll bet mine had faded some in 40+ years.
