Bumper bolts
Bumper bolts
Getting the rear bumper on my 71 Vista Cruiser rechromed, got new bolts from Fusick all they have are capped bolts and they just do not look right to me, not like the regular uncapped ones they look too flat. What is everyone using for this.
thanks
thanks
Bob, at that time factory bolts were capped. There are like maybe 1/2 dozen different styles and sizes of repro bolts, The wrong size or style looks goofy. You can polish the caps to a very shiny finish.
When I took the brackets off there were 2 bolts appearing to be original , they are not capped and higher domed than the new capped bolts. Taking the caps off on the ones that were on the car all are elevator bolts with the cap making them domed. I should be getting the bumper back in a few weeks I will just see what the capped bolts look like on it.

This is in lines offering. The squares under the head require grinding to work properly.

The capped heads are factory correct. The stainless caps don't rust. I would check the offerings at AMK.

Do you have any pics of your vista? Who did you have do the bumpers? As Joe said, the stainless capped bolts are correct. As far as I know the "high dome" chromed bolts were not used after 65 .(someone here can correct me if I am wrong as they may have been used up to 67)
I believe these may match the original profile and diameter, at least for my '69 and '70 Cutlass and Chevelle. I have some NOS, correct part number bolts. Recently I bought some from AMK and found the profile was correct but the outside diameter was a bit large. I haven't actually purchased these Midwest Musclecar bolts yet, but of all the ones available I think these are the most promising:
