Anyone got info on 78 Salon aerobacks?

I bought this 1978 2 door salon for $500 bucks! I love it but everyone else thinks its ugly! It is all original and has the 305 and a saginaw 4 speed. I am looking for some restoration parts and more info on the aerobacks in particular. I need a new header panel emblem for sure. I am also wanting to know production number and if the 4 speed was more rare. What rear end gear ratio? I have hit many salvage yards and scored some nice interior parts. DSC03199.jpg

Aerobacks are an acquired taste. I used to think they were fugly, but now I think they're pretty sharp cars esp compared to the jellybeans that pass for cars now. I'd say having a 4-speed non-442 Salon is a very rare piece- shame you could get the 4-speed only behind the 2-bbl 305.

Look at it this way. If you like the car, screw what someone else thinks of it. If they're not supporting and maintaining it, their opinion don't mean squat anyway.

The 2 barrel had to go! I bought a new Holley 600 carb and a performer intake for it already! I can't find anything on the net for this car! I have a book with one side pic of a 442 Salon in it and it's a beauty. Are there any good informative websites on the Salon's and 442's ?

You could always check out the following website. They have some decent info.

http://www.442.com/

BTW, that is a sharp little car. You don't see those very often.

There's a powder blue one for sale near me. 4 flat tires, two broken windows (guess which two *groan*) and he wants $2000 because he feels it is RARE.

There is also a 4-4-2 in that color with white stripes and floorshift automatic at a car lot 30 miles away. He's had it for 12 years and is waiting for the value to go up before he sells.

I always thought the Aerobacks were ugly, too. However, it's still an Olds and it has become rare, that far outweighs whether anyone thinks it's ugly.

You WILL be the only one on your block with one. But seriously, 4 speed and V-8 are a pretty rare option combo for that year/Model. I love oddball cars! Nice car, I'm jealous.

i have a black 1980 salon with buick 3.8 and a 3 speed manual with electronic overdrive....so i guess its a 4 speed, pretty sure its a saiginaw also, had a hell of a time finding anything about these cars......yeah some ppl think there fugly.......i think there pretty ugly stock unless its the 442, ripped the ugly trim off the sides of mine..made it look wayy better...only reason there fugly stock is they all came with ugly *** wheels and trim, nice paint and some cragars/torque thrusts/ fat tires in the back and everyone would be drooling on it..........oh and a 455 .....considerd putting a turbo on the 3.8 also

I have not had much luck finding part for the 78 salons. I have had mine for two year now. The style has grown on me.

Just looked at the pic again, is that a 55 chevy 2 door hard top behind the olds? Looks like it to me.

I don't think the 2 door Aeroback is too bad at all. Now, I seem to remember there was a 4 door Aeroback. Now THAT was the definition of fugly!
