Here are pictures of the multi-plex unit for the factory-installed AM-FM stereo radio installed in my '69 4-4-2. These pics are from under the dash, looking back towards the multi-plex unit, which is positioned above the glove box (you can see the glove box light in some pics). The glove box is removed to best see everything. Hope this helps.

I have seen several of these multi-plex am/fm 1970 radios before
I have not noticed the brace that is attached on the side of the multi-plex unit before. It is not attached/screwed to anything on that end, so what is the purpose of that long piece/bracket? I assume it should be attached?

I don't know for sure. I do know that, on my car, it was attached to nothing. It's a Fremont car so that might explain it! On the other hand, I was thinking that perhaps that brace had an application on some, but not all, models, so it was included on all the multiplex units, and that perhaps it didn't have an application for the Olds A-bodies.

diagram taken from 1970 Assembly Manual
No instructions, but the diagram should shed some light. As I recall the unit was tightly tucked behind the glove box (as mentioned by Randy). Not much room if your car has a/c duct work.
