Exclamation OEM AM/FM Radio Install !?

Hey guys,
I bought an am/fm radio('65), off e-bay for my '65 Vista to replace the mint working am! Installing was no prob, switched 12V no problem...ant no problem...thought I had the dash speaker right, but no sound? Radio turns on, lights up, and I hear the music coming out of the radio itself, but barely audible! Can't get it to come out of the speaker! The speaker does work!) Can't see that I'm hooking this up wrong....it's pretty simple! Does this sound like something could be wrong with the output of the radio? Guy said he tested it, but you know how that goes! Thanks.....

I don't know a whole lot about these older models, but I'm gonna take a guess and say it's a tube radio. You could have a bad final tube. You never know.

Let us know what you find out as my 69 Cougar has the exact same symptoms and I have always assumed it to be the speaker.

Thanks

I put the original radio back in in the meantime, and everything works fine...

Assuming it has 12 volt negative ground wiring... does the impedance of the radio match the speaker? (8 ohm, 4 ohm etc...) Is the antenna connected correctly? If the speaker is grounded to the dash then there should only be one wire leading to the speaker. Listen for any audible pop or hum when you power the system, at least you'll know the speaker works.

yes on the ground wiring, I assume the radio and speaker impedance match. It is the original speaker, has never been removed, works perfectly with original am radio, speaker is grounded to the dash. Only one wire for speaker to radio. When turned on, radio lights up, and I can hear the music very faintly, not from the speaker but from the radio itself. When I unplug the speaker wire from the radio, there is no change, but when I touch the speaker wire to the body of the radio, the speaker pops and comes alive, but still no music.....

You're probably right on the transformer...I can't see anything I might have done wrong?! The model # is Delco 7289698...thanks.

Unhappy I.D.

Your 7289 number is in the '65 era but the 698 does not show up some people selling radios on E-bay refer to a website ID'ing the numbers for the radios they are selling...I am using a Delco radio service manual with a six page radio index in the front..

If you went from an AM to an AM/FM, Does it have a rear/front balancer or anything that you could turn the **** to fade the radio to the front speaker?

Just a thought....
