Air cleaner GM decal

I am restoring my 4 bbl air cleaner, I picked up the 4 bbl air cleaner top decal, but am confused on the proper "keep your GM all GM front of air cleaner decal.

my car is a 4 BBL cutlass with air conditioning

what do the 2 letters and OS going vertically down the side mean?

I have seen with OS, NJ, OR, CE

which one would be correct for my car?

On a related note, the sticker you posted is what the ones I bought from Fusick look like. However, my original 1972 455 air cleaners have the "Keep your GM car all GM" text in two shorter rows, not one long row. I'll have to look at what the two-letter code is on them. There are definitely different variations among originals.

2 letter codes identify an application. they are different for a reason. the PIM will tell you what code you need as they are different for every year

I always get a kick out of the top flight restorations, usually 70 W-30s, which have the 71 NJ code on their Keep GM decal. You spent all that time and money researching and restoring, yet you screwed it up with the wrong decal. granted it's an easy fix, but still. You'd think some person or company which claims they know their Olds would do this additional bit of research and put the right decal on in the first place. ok, off my soapbox :-)

Like Junior Supercar said, you will find both the application code and part number for all the air cleaners in the Product Information Manual (commonly called "Assembly Manual") for your year car. For example, see pages 134 and 138 of section 6-1 of the 1970 PIM. 1969 will probably be on similar pages in section 6-1.

If you can't find a reproduction label with the right application code, part number, and appearance, I'd suggest leaving it off. I find it silly to "restore" something to such exact detail but get it wrong. If a judge ever tries to deduct points for not having the label, educate him about it not being available.

I'm not doing a "restoration", wrong term to use if too literal, just spending a "mild" winter weekend cleaning the engine bay, This car will never be entered into a show and certainly not judged, I like things to be original and correct where possible.

I have the 1969 assembly manual and looked in sec 6-1 page 151-152 which covers the air cleaner.. unless I am just not seeing it I do not see where the front of air cleaner decal is shown..

It may not show that decal, but I bet it has an arrow pointing to the entire air cleaner assembly, and then text next to the arrow stating that (I'm making this up) part number 648xxxx, which is application code OX, is used on Cutlasses with the 4 bbl 910 ci engine. Right?

The line workers at Final Assembly didn't apply the decal; they installed the air cleaner assembly which already included the decal.
