This ain't right

Pulled water pump as it started leaking right when the weather got nice....found these bunched up in the throat of the inlet side. I can only imagine they are the remnants of the reinforcement springs inside the hose but NEVER expected to see them in this shape. Before just going ahead and replacing the water pump, anything I should do/ have done? Forgive my ignorance and thanks in advance for any help/hints/guidelines.

I would also shine a light down into the radiator making sure no little pieces are clogging any of the tubes... Just thinking out loud....

Old worn out, out dated Antifreeze caused the spring in your lower Rad hose to rust like that, so you should flush your system, change your water Pump, install a new lower Rad hose as previously suggested, get a long life Anti-Freeze mixture and you should be good to go.....
