303 horsepower ratings?

303 horsepower ratings?
I have heard that 303's published horsepower ratings were "conservative". On the track, 88's blew away everything in site. IMHO, Olds could have understated hp numbers because the GM corporate politics did not want Cadillac to be embarrassed.
Did anyone ever attempt to measure actual 303 horsepower output?
