!966 442 Really???

Have a look at this car advertised in Hemmings? Column shift automatic and hood moulding? I have never seen these two items on a '66 442.

No photos of the Fisher Body Data Plate, so no way to know if it's real or a Faux-Four-Two. The column shift AT WAS factory offered, even with bucket seats. In fact, if you ordered the AT option you got the column shift. You had to pay extra for the console and floor shifter. Obviously the hood chrome is incorrect, but that could be a replacement hood. Again, the cowl tag will tell.

The column shift automatic was common and the hood could have been changed @ some point in time. If you ordered an auto 442 and didn't specify a floor mounted shifter, that's what you got.

Thanks for the information. I like the hood moulding - wish they hadn't left it off the car.

I have a column shift 442 w/buckets and no console. I don't think that front seat is correct an neither are the wheels----if that isn't a 442 someone went to a lot of trouble to change what they did and not either weld up the holes in the hood or find the right one. Looks like my car on the outside (except for the hood)

It has the wrong trunk molding, and a 67 442 dash plaque. It has the stick shift open air cleaner. If the L78 442 option was "owner installed" as is almost certain, it was not done correctly with all necessary parts of the "option."

Looks like the cleaner bottom is chrome and would not be correct. I would guess this car is not a 442 but then again, unless the cowl tag says so,I would think clone or a bad job of restoring a 442. I didn't look @ all of the pictures but Dad nailed it,way to go Dad.

I noticed the dash plaque, trunck molding, and the air cleaner after I made the post----probably not a 442

That's correct, open element cleaners only on standard shift 442's. Even the 3 speed 442's had the open element cleaner.
