7111

7111
Since the 7111 was NOT my original choice, but the 2711 which EDELBROCK dropped the ball on, and I am doing some fast learning. I have a QJET that is spec'd to W-31, with electric choke from I-5. Do I have to be concerned with the spacer thickness and is there a right one? I don't think hood clearance is going to be an issue, unless it gets silly how much space it's lifted.
Secondly, I bought aluminum plugs. What do I put on the threads, if anything, and how much torque to keep them in place? Any other tips on the 7111 install would be appreciated. I have a lot of info already about the gasket and seals thanks to several forum members. As usual I have to make a run to the store for stuff. I have the original brass for the vacuum etc, but I will be waiting until the engine is in the car to be putting on the intake and carb and the plugs and valves. This is going to be fun! Once in and bolted down, it will be days away from starting and break-in, and weeks away from driving!

What spacer are you referring to? I have a QJet on my 7111 with just a good quality gasket (Fel-Pro? the one with the plastic inserts at the bolt holes).
You will likely need a couple of bolts with very small heads ti fit between two of the runners. I used 12 point cap screws(?) but Allen head screws would work as well, and I also used thick Grade 8 washers under the bolts. Regular washers will bend easily, so don't use those.

Over the years I have seen spacers which act like a gasket that go from gasket thickness to about a half inch. I was told that thickness can modify the performance, but I am guessing from what you are saying, mounting it on just the simple gasket will do the trick. It may be carb specific how thick the spacer? My 63 Cutlass had a thicker spacer but a weird little QJET...maybe I am cornfuzzed?
