I guess I have never actually torqued a header bolt. I use a longer 7/16 box end wrench if possible. Sometimes you have to use an open end to get on some. The bolt threads are 3/8, so with an iron head will be tough to break or strip one. Oh ya I tighten from middle out with about 3-4 passes to keep things even, with fewer leaks. Use a good gasket. Recheck a couple times after good warm-ups.

PS. if you have trouble with gaskets leaking at the bottom of the flange.......leave the center bolt out.

Great thanks! Should I replace the gasket if it has less than 1000 miles on it? Also what about using some hi temp sealer with the gasket?

I've found, over the years, the copper gaskets will last years, if tightened as above, [inside out] and once again, while hot!
Oven gloves help!

I personally have never used a sealer, but know guys who have and it did work for them. I like the Mr. Gasket HD gaskets and Fel Pro. I would do it now, it's easy rather than take them back off to replace the gaskets.
