700r in my Oldsmobile
Hi I need some help thinking about going with a 700r I have a TH350 with 22-2600 stall in my 72 cutlass and I have a 350 Oldsmobile motor my cam spec 520/523 lift at 60 mph my rpm is 3000 I think is to high and I have a 3.42 gear do u guys think 700r would be good thanks

An overdrive would be nice with 3.42's but you may not like the drivability of the 700 with that combo. It has a really low 1st gear good for getting off the line with lower numerically gearing, but a little too low for yours. Also, you'll likely need an adaptor for a non-chevy application. Have you thought of a 200 r4 with a B O P pattern?

A 2004r shouldn't be twice as much as a 7004r to build, both transmissions need a lot of work to live behind a healthy V8. I don't like the idea of having to use an adapter plate with the 700 when the 200 will bolt right on. I did a 2004r in my 65 with a 3:90 gear and it works great. Can't tell you much about RPM's as I wouldn't trust my stock Olds tach any farther than I could throw it.
