Wow must have been a looker back in the day, too bad the frame is rotted. Hope someone saves it! It is a very rare optioned car.

 

Those rivits on the VIN tag dont look right to me. Shouldnt they be the rosette style rivits? Left one looks to not be flush to the tag.

 

The rivets look ok to me. The ones on the trim tag will look different.

 

It's rare, but not necessarily desirable. If the body can be saved, it would be something
to restore and upgrade the 2 barrel and cam to some 442 spec stuff. Then you could have a numbers matching Cutlass that would keep up with a 442.

If they ever repop the 66 OAI cleaner, it would be something to see a 67 TC car with a modded 66 repop cleaner with just the middle 2 barrel hole.

Are you sure about them? They are not the rosette style like on other 67's.

 

Thats what im saying, Im certainly no authority and dont know when it started but i have seen and read that only rosette style rivits were used and that they are not available and illegal to make, sell or obtain in any way. Again Im no authority on the subject. Maybe it is the original VIN for the car, someone could have removed it to paint it then pop rivited it back on, who knows what may have been done years ago. But they look like pop rivits to me.

 

What about the "67" in the VIN tag, does it look legit?





Also curious about "re-framing" the car after all of the discussion on a prior thread about a re-body?

Unless I'm just plain goofy,yours are the rosette rivets and the eBay units are not.

 

That's just further proof that factory stamped #'s are not perfect. The frame is just another part and was meant to be a serviceable part just like a body shell or any other part.

 

I still say they look the same but thats just me as well.

 

Never saw a Turnpike Cruiser Convertible before.
Must be pretty rare. Power windows and power antenna, too.
If I weren't already "overloaded", I'd be tempted to go for this one.

Those rivets DO look suspicious.
I've only seen the "rosette" type rivets on '67's.
If the engine has matching numbers, the tag is probably legit.
It looks right.
At least I know some of the characters are misaligned on the tags on my cars.

You guys got my curiousity up.
I have a '67 4-4-2 convertible, a '67 CS convertible and a '67 post coupe here at the house.
I just went out and verified what's on them.
They all have the rosette type rivets.
I didn't check which plant they came from.
I have 2 other '67's at another location.
I'll check them tomorrow.

 

If the frame is very rusty, the numbers probably aren't legible anyhow.

 

I think it would be more rare and desirable as an original T.P. Cruiser convertible
with the correct Climatic Combustion Control System and air cleaner than to be modified into a 4-4-2 engine.
I believe the T.P. Cruiser engine was designed more for fuel economy.
