53 or 54?

I saw this sedan at LKQ in OKC yesterday. Some of the glass is broken, no tail lights, dash or steering wheel; but, the seat and engine are there. The radiator looks like it's OE. Of course it doesn't have a carburetor and the rear bumper is rotten. Definitely a cool find.

I take it LKQ is a salvage yard? Yeah what a find for sure, I see its next to a old ford truck, looks like they put the old stuff in a different spot from the late model stuff.-oh maybe not the one behind it looks newer. I hope someone gets what they want before they crush it!

It is a 54. Do you have any more pictures of it?

Yeah LKQ is a regional salvage yard.

Unfortunately, this car will be crushed before too long. LKQ doesn't keep their inventory very long. The 94 88 I pulled parts off of yesterday had only been in the salvage yard since the middle of July. There's another salvage yard in OKC; Pull-a-Part, that seems to keep their older cars/classics indefinitely. They have a few big 70s Fords that have been there for over a year but I've never seen any Oldsmobiles there. Besides newer ones I pull parts off of for my 96 98.

Thanks Jesse. I was curious if it has two little chrome pieces that separate the two tone color at the end of the hockey stick moldings. They are very rare since Olds didn't start using them until June of 54. I was fortunate to find them on a parts car. If it has power steering those parts are pretty rare especially the two groove water pump pulley and harmonic balancer. If by some remote chance it had AC the 4 groove pulleys are like gold. Not very many 88's had AC.

Here are the pics the salvage yard posted on their loyalty website. As I said, some parts are missing but it doesn't look like it ever had AC. I didn't see an AC compressor in the trunk or seat. They have it listed as a 54 98.

Hey power steering, get all the parts ASAP. Don't forget the hose guide on the head bolt, and the head bolt with the mounting stud for bracket. The yard or you will have to get the car up to get the assembly out. If the car is jacked up on two rims which is the usual practice, that should provide enough height to slip it out. Just break the entire steering linkage assy loose at tie rod ends and unbolt pittman arm from frame, take it all for the same price. If either of the sheet steel pans are still there, take those too. Pretty sure 54 still included those.

EDIT : Sorry now see in your first pic it is already jacked up. Do it my way you won't have to get under the car much. Be careful. If you can get it all for about $100 you might make a easy five bills with patience. Power steering parts are now at a premium for us old fat boomers. 73

The harmonic balancer is not pressed on. It is a bolt on but it will take a good breaker bar or impact wrench to get the bolt loose. Also if it has the steering wheel with the power steering insert that is worth getting. Is this a pull your own part place?

Yes, it's a self service pull-a-part. The steering wheel and dash are already gone. I'm not sure if the PS pump is still there.

ALL power steering parts, every nut bolt and spacer. Pulleys, brackets, hoses. If that stuff went with the engine if the engine is now gone, still worthwhile to get the steering box and linkage.

I've read in other posts on this site that the chrome "lip" on the hood is hard to find and quite valuable. The one in post #1 looks pretty good.

Good eye Frank and that is a 54 year only piece. Since the above photos are from the salvage yard and the dash and steering wheel are gone, I bet all the power steering parts are gone. If this thing was a little closer I would be all over it. OKC is a little too far to go. Jesse you just have us salivating.
