50 years a 442.

As far as I can tell, my 05E dated coded 67 442 was made either the 29th, the 30th, or the 31st of May in 67. Useful trivia includes that Memorial Day, known as such commonly since after WWII, was Federally legislated to be officially called Memorial Day in 67. Being as how the Uniform Monday Holiday Act did not take place until 68, Memorial Day was always May 30, exactly 50 years ago today, and all years previous. In 68 on, it was the "last Monday in May."

Being as such, my Olds probably spent the (Tuesday) holiday somewhere in Fisher Body or in Assembly. I planned to drive it yesterday, but was tired from my Sunday activities, so, although I was in town, and drove another classic I have there which is in much better driveable shape, the 442 only got an inspection, a pat, and some kind words and promises to begin restoration soon.

A late year 67, mine is an automatic (with the latter air cleaner, see my avatar), hardtop with column shift, bench seat, antique pewter paint, and the champagne and black interior that was a popular option. Decently optioned with AC and power windows, it is all there and fairly solid.

I've had it since 05, when I bought it as an abandoned project. It's had some body work done, and would not run as it had been in a minor front ender. It does run and drive and stop now, but, as I have yet to haul it down to Evansville, it awaits serious TLC until I build my shop here soon. It sits currently in a garage about 3 inches longer than it is near my grandma's house.

So cool to get to see that car again and to know it survived the turmoil it was in here in Brazil. First time I found that car it was sitting outside of a hillbilly auto shop with a dispute between them and the owner in which was going through a divorce. It sit there for around a year along side several split window VW bugs and about 20 other VW bugs. I tried to buy it but could never get the owner information from them. One day they were not at the shop and I tried the cars door. It was unlocked. With weeds growing tall around it, I opened it up and the glovebox had the owner information in it. I called them up and still could not buy it. After the car vanished I tried to track it down for several years till you came and got that transmission from me and I found out that you got the car.

I am glad it found a good home.

Very cool story. Not only was my first Olds a 67, but it was my age. 67 442 is still on the bucket list. Now if it had been built on the 28th it could have celebrated 50 with me.
