4 speed automatic
4 speed automatic
Has anyone converted a 1970 model to a 4speed automatic? How would I convert the linkage to the gate shifter?
I also need a very stock appearing shifter

Yes
What shifter do you have now, a standard shifter or a dual gate? Shiftworks sells conversion kits for either to turn them into a four speed shifter, but their dual gate kit leaves a lot to be desired. Basically it slightly changes the length of the arm on the shifter that drives the cable. This squeezes another gear into the shift pattern, but it puts OD in the former neutral position. N, R, and P are all smushed together in the remaining space.
The only other alternative for a dual gate is to find one of the extremely rare four speed dual gate shifters that Hurst sold aftermarket in the 1980s. These are long out of production and sell for stupid money when one shows up on ebay.

I found the shift works site. I would go with the gate only if the 4speed hurst made has a stock appearance. More likely ill just skip the gate and go with the simpler conversion. Manually shifting a modern automatic is overrated.
