I always like AMC's, a unique underdog. There was multiple Javelins in a village near me. One ended up with Ford power. The AMC V8 heads were one of the best heads from that time. Probably the biggest downside is Ford carbs and ignition they used. The 71 and up had the pretty reliable Chrysler Torqueflite with a unique AMC pattern.
AMC made some pretty obvious attempts at performance cars back in the late 60's The Scrambler Rambler, AMX with 401, and the 340, dual quad Javelins. Wally Booth and "The Dragon Lady" Shirley Shahan from Colorado were a couple names. https://www.hotrod.com/features/trib...-1969-original
