1st salvage yard experience ever
1st salvage yard experience ever
I went to the salvage yard yesterday and sniffled a bit at all the dead cars there. We spent 2 hours looking for an oldsmobile that had my tail lights but we found none even after searching the entire yard. We did find 3 chrystler imperials from the fifties, giant tail fins and all, under a collapsed building. All of them are in very restorable shape, and if I get enough money, I want to lift the building off of them and buy them. Thats after I fix my olds, of course. After that cool experience, we got lost. When we finally got to a trail, we came out to the barn on the property. And sitting right next to the barn, was a 79-8? 98. With my tail lights. (but not my grill.... o well) I was so happy I almost fainted. If the seats arent too bad in it, I might take them, but I will take the armrest to replace my destroyed armrest.
Overall, it was a fun, fulfilling experience, and I saw some really cool cars.
Like a car from the fifties with teardrop tail lights. What the hell was that?

They are fun, but sad for us car lovers. I could tell you what the 50's car was with pictures. If they are tear drop shaped they are probably custom , do an image search for '39 F**d taillights. I bet they were added that is a common custom touch. Glad you had fun, our local boneyard is pretty lame so I wish I went with you.
olds425, in the late 1990's I found an old closed wrecking yard that may not be too far from you. Odds are it's all gone now.... but if you get up that way you might look for it. Here's an old thread I posted describing it. John

Yeah it was fun. Except I was dehydrated like crazy and didn't want to do anything else except get out... haha. Woulda enjoyed it more if I remembered to bring water
I'm looking to get a new (well...old...) left rear tail light (found a parts car for most of this), replace my armrest, get a radio (theres an 88 in good condition [restorable, next time I go I'll take pics] I may grab it from) I might take the trunk lid, and other things. I didn't look at it that much because I was more worried about getting water.
The only thing I am still looking for is a new driver side headlight grill thing. It was a later model car and didn't have the 4 light square configuration
