salvage yard electric fans
salvage yard electric fans
HI Guys!
I am getting ready to put a stock 455 in my 1972 Olds Cutlass S. I have a new 4 row aluminum radiator. I would like to convert to an electric fan and I was wondering if anyone has had success with salvage yard fans, and if so, what make and model of donor car works best to donate the fan. Any thoughts?
Thanks for your time.

With a 4 row aluminum radiator it should cool very nicely. I have used the 2 row aluminum radiators with 1 inch tubes and they work better that any old 4 core core radiator I ever had. I standard clutch fan will do the job just fine.
I don't know the HP differences between elec and standard fans, and I question if it is worth the trouble but I'll watch and see what other guys say.

Re 455
Becarefull there, Is your car originally a 455 car? if not you will need some new springs up front, the electric fans are a good idea, but rember if you alterntor is stock it is only 65 to 71 amps? I would install the factory fan and cluch set up, it works well, If you want extra cooling put the fans on the grill side of the radiator and use an electric thermostat set 20 or thirty degrees higher than the temp the thermostat in your manifold is set at. Extra saftey/cooling for extreem heeting conditions, but wont run the electrics mos of the time.
If you are a "hood up and lawnchair" type, disregard.
Not enough weight difference to even think about a spring change.
Because he has one.
