Anybody near Walla Walla Washington?

Hey guys,
I was thinking about bone yards when I remembered about 10 years ago I wandered into an old yard in Umapine Oregon, just southwest of the border from Walla Walla Washington. The story was an old man owned it and died. His widow didn't advertize it as a yard, but when I knocked on her door she let me wander through. I bought some trim parts off a 1969 Cutlass, but the yard was mostly 1940's-50's vintage stuff. Including a 2 door fastback Oldsmobile from I believe the late 40's. A funny thing was that many of the cars had the doors removed and they were stacked up on one side of the yard. I used up the roll of film in my camera snapping pic's of cool old cars. Most wern't wrecked, I guess they got old and had major mechanical failures or just wern't worth enough money to sell. If anybody is in the area I may be able to remember the directions well enough for you to find it. Who knows if it's still there or not, but if it's far enough away from any melting pots it may have been spared the spike in scrap metal prices we just had. If I can come up with those photographs I'll post a couple. John

I will be looking for property to buy in the Walla Walla and Milton Fremont area after Thanksgiving this year. I am going to build my shop and house there when I retire in two years. Can you remember a general location? I have a few friends who have already located there, one is a motorcycle guy the other a computer head, but if They know what to look for they will find it for me

Pat

Old Bone Yard Location

Man I love technology! Do you have Google Earth? If you do, type in Umapine Oregon. It will give you a bullseye on a paved road that runs East and West. Then use the ruler to move 0.94 miles to the West along that road. That will be at an intersection, go North 0.20 miles and you can see the cars in a field on the right, the East side of the road. I don't know how old the google earth photo is, but I'm sure this is the place! John

Google Earth

Looking at the photo there's new roads pushed into the yard, and I'm sure there were many more cars there when I was last there. If you do have somebody check it out let us know what he finds! John

Can you scan or copy the photo and pm or e-mail it to me. It might have a clue for someone who lives there.

I have the cars spotted and will check them out in December and let you know what I find out. Google Earth works great.

I found the pictures!

I scanned the photos I took of the wrecking yard about 10 years ago. Attached are some of the photos, there are another dozen or so on my photobucket site. To view those go to: http://s90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...ecking%20Yard/

I'll be heading that way as soon as the snow clears. Late January or early February
