1972 power steering connection help needed

1972 power steering connection help needed

i have a 455 olds engine and putting a 1972 power steering pump on it...but im connecting it to my 1956 olds steering box...one hose matches up connection to connection..but the other hose doesnt have the same size end..whats the best way to be able to use the hose i have for the 72 pump and make it fit the smaller hole of the 1956 olds steering box? thanks

You are most likely going to have to have one made up to work. You're going to need to find some place that does hydraulic lines to get it done, but it shouldn't be all that expensive.
What you have to do is get measurements and angles needed for the fittings so they can install them properly on the hoses so that they don't bind when you install them in the car.
Having the hoses from both setups will be a big help and gives the builder a good starting point.

74 Corvette uses a hose that has the fittings you need, most parts stores keep it in stock, Check it out. Good luck.

i was wondering if i could find a fitting that had a female end that the original 72 would go in and a male the size of the 56...reduceing it down... i think i will see

If I needed that fitting I would go to my local NAPA, the weatherhead group will offer that.

You need a 3/8 to 5/16 flair fitting,

If you have the hose with the correct end for the steering box, you can cut off a short piece of tubing with the correct end and remove the end of the correct hose and use a compression union to mate the two.
