I have not seen the cable reproduced, but could be wrong. What are the symptoms ?

Not alot can go wrong with it, but I can tell you from personal experience I had mine get hung up in the window mechanism when I was putting the door panels back together. There is a welded in clip on the door that the cable should fit in to keep it from binding on anything. I saw that when I was trying to resolve the issue

Cable is functional, but the controller is a little on the ugly side. I have another one on a standard remote mirror I would trade out if I can.

I swaped the "controler" out, had an issue with it so had to be done. It was not easy. I had to open up each swage/compressed metal area of the housing some to get each cable end to push out, and to get the cable free of the housing, did this a long time ago, I think there were other challenges too. Again was not easy,., but was able to change it out. Maybe there are other methods to replace cable /controler at the mirror end?.

Thank you...I will look into this option with my parts. a controller swap would accomplish my goal. I'm assuming a similar procedure is required behind the mirror glass but would likely require getting the glass out of the way. I see new glass is available and even available with a new die cast backing plate with what looks like cable attach points. I was just hopeful someone here had approached this job and could offer a pointer or two.

You should avoid the repro die cast backing plate setup.....have had a couple just randomly break and then the mirror glass falls out. I think in one case it was the "pin" that is pressed into the diecast pedestal that broke....or slipped out. Just went and looked at a repro pedestal a second ago and it has 3-4 cracks in the casting (never used) and one of the travel limiter pins was also broken off. Real junk but not surprising given it's a repro part.

They apparently use some REAL junky diecast material for the repro die cast backing plate (better described as the "pedestal")

The mirror glass itself can be replaced as you noted.
