1970 Gold stripe on Galleon Gold paint

According to this chart, Gold stripes were an option on Galleon gold paint. Anyone have a pic of such a combo? I would like to stripe my car and am not crazy about black or white stripes.

That would be an interesting combo for sure. I can't say that I have seen gold on gold before. I did notice on your chart that for Sebring Yellow that red stripes were not an option. There is a factory Sebring Yellow with red stripe W-30 that was a test car in a magazine in 1970. Maybe Car Craft?

Olds had RPO codes that allowed sales people to override the suggested color combos for stripes, two tone cars, and even interior/exterior color combos.

Here's the article about that yellow with red car, from High Performance Cars.

And here's a 70 with gold-on-gold. I can't say that it stands out, exactly...

The chart is just recommended colors. They did the same for interior colors, however, we've seen black with blue interior, black with green interior, blue with gold interior, aegean aqua with gold interior, etc. You get the point.

Every time I see that sebring yellow W-30 with red stripes I get a bit curious as to where that car ended up. That's the only yellow and red stripe combo I have seen for '70 thus far.

Thank you for those pics Joe, I agree on the lack of contrast. Not what I was hoping for. Maybe a burnished gold or bronze is what I need..

Agreed. They are suggested combos. I have seen red and blue stripes on factory black cars. Loved the blue on the black. Red also.

I too have often wondered about the fate of that yellow and red W-30. The world may never know..
PS: Notice the Motion Performance sticker in the passenger window. Maybe that car was sold thru them. They didn't just do Chevy's.

If I remember correctly, Motion Performance was connected in some way to the Markowitz Oldsmobile dealership and campaigned a 442 in (1968-69), but wasn't the top contender. Berejik Olds (Woodland & Andreasen) was the 442 to beat. Motion Performance was a "merchandiser" and located on Sunrise Highway, Baldwin, Long Island, New York..

They were a performance shop as well. Much more than just a merchandiser. They put out many Pontiac's. They did Oldsmobiles and even Buicks. Pretty sure you could take whatever to them. Leave it they transform it. You come pick it back up.

Thank you for correcting me. They did some performance work in their shop and ran lots of ads in car magazines. The signage was Chebby and Oldsmobile at the time I was there. .

Yeah there is a Motion built Buick on V8 Buick that a member there restored. I have pictures somewhere in my always growing car picture files on the front of Motion Performance and it's surprising how many non Chevy's are there.

Sorry to take this thread sideways by the way.

About 20 years ago, I was at a car show, when I spotted a '70 W30 about a block away, not in the show. It was Nugget gold with lighter gold stripes, which I thought were Galleon gold, except, the gold used for stripes in the Olds paint and fabric book, had a different paint code. It looked good. Sorry that I don't have a pic.

When I had my car painted (Bamboo car), I was set on having the factory gold stripe. My friends talked me out of it by suggesting a stripe color that would pick up the interior color.

After I thought about it, I realized they were correct. In your case a brown stripe would pick up the roof color and would make a nice contrast with the gold paint

Yeah, they certainly don't stand out but it looks cool! "ghost stripes"! Here's one of my favorites, stunning car!

It also has a "Phase III" sticker on the nose. Good eye to see that Motion sticker on the glass.

Whether a hard top or a convertible, these different different pics showing various stripes color combos scream one thing. The 1970 Olds 442 has such gorgeous lines that combines to create a timeless beautiful muscle car.

They did sell prepackaged "Super Cars" starting with Baldwin Chevrolet, hence the infamous Baldwin-Motion cars. Joel held several Modified Production records and some with a Shelby Super Snake. They were one of the first Dyno Shops on Long Island and could make just about anything go fast. One of his main techs was Bill Mitchell of Bill Mitchell Products / Race engines. Lot's of Muscle Car history. You couldn't pick up a "CARS" magazine from back in the day without reading about Motion Performance.

I wanted stripes on my Olds. I sort of knew what I wanted. I ended up getting some big paper. I sprayed them different colors and cut them about the size of the stripes. That way I could lay them on the hood and see how it looked. It worked for me.

Good Idea, I've also though about shooting color on some masking tape and laying some options down on the car to decide.

I like the gold on gold as another poster said reminds me of ghost flames which I have always liked, understated beauty !! It says I’m beautiful with out screaming at you.

It seems like a good percentage of stripes matched the interior color.

That was the general sales guidance - stripes and vinyl or convertible top were suggested to match the interior.

Yes and it seems to me that many went that route.

Maybe get that chromed mirror like material that is color tinted brown to match the roof, but mirror-ish.

Amazon Amazon

Since this thread about stripes is running so deep. I have to say. I cannot stand stripes where the never were factory. Trunk lid stripes on an Oldsmobile other than a pace car are LAME. I have always been funny on my dislike for non factory stripes.
