Question 1969 Cutlass Center Console

Hello All,

Im looking to make the leap from bench seat to Buckets and center console shifter. I was considering all my options and due to budgetary constraints I was think of buy a stock 69 Console and installing an after marking Hurst V-Matic Shifter. Has anyone had experience putting an aftermarket shifter into a stock console? Also any other suggestions or ideas would be very much welcome.

Cheers!

Not sure about the v matic, but I did see someone put a his and her into a 69 auto console. If you need any measuremnts I've got a few consoles.

I would love a his and hers shifter but they seem to be in short supply and high demand, expensive. Would be willing to part with any of these consoles?

If 501paratrooper doesn't want to part with his consoles, I have one that I can offer to you. The top plate isn't great but the rest of it is pretty good. It has been refinished and the plastic does have a few areas that show distortion for some reason but I think it would be fine for anything unless you were doing a 100 point restoration.

Sure, give me a day or so to dig it out and I'll get a few photos. I'm interested in seeing it go to someone else so I'll likely give you a good price.

Looks decent, Ill have to take your word on it, my knowledge of shifters and linkage isn't what I would call on par, is it currently functional? What would I need to get it up and running? Also is it compatible with the TH400?
Thanks,
Alex

Ok, Interesting. Now I believe I would have to modify a stock 69 Console, would I not? Or do you have any idea if the DG faceplate would fit in the stock face plate area? Or buy the hurst olds console, which Im not too interested in.

I think the 67-69 consoles came out of the mold with some distortion, I always see on the sides slight indentations where on the inside the bolts and screws attach. The 70-72's seem to have been molded a little better.

Alex,

I pulled the console I have and for some reason, it is not as nice as I thought it was. The main sections of the console are fine but it would need a new storage bin lid, hinge and lock mechanism. The shifter plate isn't nice and it is missing the light components that install on the underside. The switch which controls the light for the storage bin is bad and would need to be replaced. The wiring harness looks to be OK. What I have would be a console you would have to build into a complete unit. Sorry, but I thought it was nicer than this. See what else someone comes up with for you. Mine might be better used for parts.

Like I said I'm working with a very finite budget so if you dont mind Id still like to see it. If your set on selling it for parts thats fine but if not couldnt hurt to see it!

Thanks. For some reason the one I have seemed to have a little more distortion in the areas you mentioned than others I have seen and owned.

OK then, I get a few photos. And I'll make you a deal to just to get rid of it. Give me a few hours to get the pictures.

Alex,

Here are a few photos of the console I have. As mentioned, the storage bin door and console top plate are not good and the light/shifter ID in the top plate is also missing. There is no lock for the console lid too. On the side, there is 1 screw and clip missing (out of 8 total that are used) to attach the 2 halves together. And the switch that operates the light in the storage bin is bad. Everything else isn't too bad. The holes in the bottom of the storage bin that are used to screw the console down to the floor are perfect. One picture shows the area under the shifter top plate and how it is unmodified.

Price is $75 plus shipping. Let me know.

Thanks,
Brian

I was actually expecting a lot worse. I like it. Consider it sold. I've got a Research Lab from 4:30 until 8 or so tonight and we can sort out logistics then. Thanks!
