1968 power trunk release?
#2
The '68 trunk release is a gold vacuum can with supply vacuum coming from the right side trunk hinge. Later years electric will also fit and work in similar fashion. The hard piece to find is the extension for the lock cylinder to actuator.

It's possible that someone retrofitted a later electric trunk release. Unbolt the latch mechanism and look at it.
The correct vacuum style mechanism looks like this:
The electric ones are integral to the latch and look like this:

I know the solid long pawl won't work. I've tried it and it binds up. You need the swivel pawl to make it work and they are next to impossible to find. Hopefully someone will be able to reproduce the swivel pawl in small quantities someday and all who have the rest of the vacuum-powered remote trunk release can finish their installations!

And the coupling shafts come in different sizes and slightly different shapes. I was able to try these two. The longer one worked. The shorter one did not work as it didn't reach the unlocking mechanism. Randy C.

I'm pretty sure that one won't work. The part between the lock and the swivel is too long and it just won't fit where it is supposed to go. As well, the section from the swivel to the end that goes into the unlocking mechanism is too short. I had one similar to that one as well and tried it without success.
