I have thoroughly read the break down of the body tag on 1962oldsmobile.com and it is wonderfully full of information, however in reality I have found a discrepancy and hope someone here can sort it out for me. With regard to accessories, the site claims there are two different coding methodologies and I have seen both of them in the wild so it is true. One is a letter code that corresponds to the dealer order codes and the other is a three digit "IBM" code of all numbers.
However, there is in reality a third methodology I have encountered repeatedly now and it consists of a single number then hyphen and then another number. Example- "1-6", or "1-11". I have seen this now more than once and would love to know how to decode this. So far I have only seen then start with the number 1. I thought maybe the one stood for accessory group one, but it doesn't seem to match up with how the car is actually equipped.
Does anyone know how to decode these? Attached is an example I found.
OK, this sucks. What I feared would happen has happened. A car I'm really, really, really interested in has a body plate that I CAN'T DECODE!! That's what I was hoping to get ahead of by starting this thread. It sucks that nobody knows how to decode these plates!!! I have read what the internet has to offer. What does the plate say with regard to accessories ONLY. The rest of the plate I can read.
What does 1-12 mean??? I really need to know. Does it somehow mean a 4 speed transmission??? Clearly nobody knows these codes, yet they are all over out there in the wild. This is least the 4th one coded like this I've found.
