Just sat down to review my dad‘s Hemmings classic car mag that came today. Inside front cover has an ad for OPGI - how many things are wrong with this “1971 442”
I don’t necessarily have a problem with the car as it is - but call it a resto mod, not a 1971 442!
But it has 70s mirrors. It's a 70 with a bit of a stripe size mismatch on the hood and the 68 stripe on the fenders just doesn't flow on the 70. Sorry. Trying to figure out that hairlip front bumper look. Not sure I'm understanding that.
But it appears like there's none of the crap on that sucker that can't be fixed.
I've seen that episode of Overhaulin a couple of times, I cringe everytime I see it, even though it's about an Olds!! Chip must have seen all the '68s that now have the rallye stripes & decided it would look cool to blend them in on a '70 . They threw away the headrests when doing the interior, they added the OAI hood(I believe it was an all fiberglass one) but used a '68-9 style dual snorkel air cleaner that wasn't hooked up to anything!!! At least they had the 455 Olds motor rebuilt instead of putting in some GM crate motor!! They also did a '68 442 convert a while back & they did manage to paint the engine (the original 400) the correct bronze color instead of gold like the 455 in the '72 442 that was done on garage squad.
Yeah I think Foose took some key features that stand out to him on Oldsmobiles and put his touch on some features of the car. Ive seen so much worse and for the purist maybe this is considered distasteful? At least he highlighted some key Olds features. The wheels are kinds cool.
