Build tag decodeing

Hey- I'm looking for some assistance to get my tag decoded. I've been searching all over the internet and haven't come up with much. I got the VIN figured out. I know she's a 1970 2 door holiday coupe built during the first week of December (I'm assuming 1969 for the 1970 model year) and came out of the Fremont plant. I've also figured out the engine is coded for 1977 to 1980. Still have to get the trans and rear end numbers.
Here's the info from the tag-
First line- ST 70-34257 BF 04297 BDY
Second line- TR 980 B80 19 B PNT
Third line- 12A 207048 760117

I've been able to figure out what each code represents (Body build number, color code, trim code etc...) but I can't seem to find what the actual codes are. And help would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully soomeone sa least can give me a line on where I can find this info. I just what to know what this car was when she rolled of the assembly line.
Thanks

A number of people on here can help you and will likely chime in as soon as they see your post. If you haven't already seen it, you might also try this website:

Hi, Welcome to the forum. I am new to it as well. Just decoded my tag last week. Here is a link to the codes on the Body tag. http://www.69olds.com/decode.html

I will let you decode it yourself though. It is more fun discovering what you have rather than having someone tell you.

Got any pictures?

Good luck!

clubho,
Your 068 is more likely 06B--Build date 2nd (B) week of June (6th month).
Not near my books so I don't know the rest of your codes right now.

That's definitely what it is. A June build date would make this a car built late in the model year.

Thanks everyone. I've been to the 69olds.com site, and most of my codes do not match. I also hit up the oldsmobility site, and same thing, most of the codes do not match. About all I can get from the tag itself is that the car came with chrome roof drip moldings. I'm more interested in the color, the original paint behind the door panaels is a copper/bronze color. Hopefully, I'll come across a build sheet for it as I start tesring things down this winter and cleaning the car up.

As I read back through the postings, I seem to have the same issue that clubho has. He's showing the same codes basically that I can't find any info for.

No offense, clubho, but you make it hard on everyone when you jump into the middle of 2 different threads, asking the same question. Please start a new thread when you have something. And just one, please!

1970 and 1967 data tags are not the same, and do not decode the same. Oldsmobility is incomplete and Rund's codes, as he says, are for '66 (though most apply to '67. They do not apply to '68 and newer.
But those are just *accessory* codes and even in the applicable '64-'67 years, they were used at the Lansing and Framingham plants, but *not* at the Fremont plant.
Confusing enough? Basically need to look at each tag individually for answers.

You have a Cutlass Supreme Hardtop Coupe
Okay, 19 B is Ebony Black with a black top
980 Black interior.
Triple black! nice......

Kurt/wmachines brings up important points. Those who are enthusiastic about their cars should visit ebay and get a parts catalog and factory service manuals from the era. Trim, etc. codes can be found in them.
Body by Fisher, not Fischer.
The little hole at the bottom of 1966 cowl tags from Feb 66 on (to the left of Body by Fisher) indicate that the roof panel has reinforcements and threaded holes for shoulder belts.

I've never seen trim codes in a chassis or body service manual, and I've had or have manuals for '64, '67, '73, and '75. Info on decoding VINs is in them, but not cowl tag trim codes that I've ever found. Maybe they're in the other manuals you mention.

I agree that the FIRST purchase any owner of an old car should make if they plan to keep it and/or work on it is the service manuals. They'll answer at least half the questions people typically have.

Thanks wmachine. I was told when I bought the car it was black, but I figured they were talking about the back primer I've been uncovering. Behind the driver's side door panel, it's a copper/bronze color, but that could be a replacement door. Triple black? I might have to consider that when it's time for paint. Thanks again!
