1955 windshield installation

Is there a method to install a 1955 Oldsmobile windshield and gasket using just one person? I can not seem to find any shops in the Dallas area that does gasket installation s or has experience with a gasket. And none will do a home installation.

It appears to me that the gasket could "modified" and then "glued" to seal against water leaks.

I have no idea what "modified" exactly means.

Any suggestions?

Thanks. Ron

It would be almost impossible to install this type of windshield by yourself.
You will need to find an assistant. A nylon cord and a couple of pry tools are the only other things needed.
A spray bottle of soapy water is also helpful.
This video will give you a good idea of the procedure;
Don't expect glass shops to be any help, most of the installers weren't even born yet when these windshields were in vogue.

I did read the 1955 thread. It was excellent.

I guess that is why I was asking for info or perhaps updated method(s).

My thought on a modification was to place the gasket on windshield. Make a strap to hold the inner lip at more than a 90 degree angle. Put the glass and gasket in as a unit then release the strap that is holding the inner lip.

That just provides a basic overview but it provides food for thought.

You're overthinking this.
Just do like the video shows you and use the cord to pull the rubber over the pinchweld.

Exactly this. A wife, girlfriend, neighbor, niece or nephew, stranger walking down the street…you will be done in 15 minutes. I installed a new windshield in my ‘57 Chevy last year and it was a piece of cake. Used a small piece of rope like the video shows. Set the thing in on the bottom pinch weld, then while my wife held pressure on it I pulled the rope and it just popped in.

I suggest installing the seal on the windshield and holding it on with tape, and letting it all set outside on properly supportive stands on a warm day to help the rubber soften a little and conform to the windshield.

If you can't get it done you might try a trim and upholstery shop.
