Angry Gas Gauge Problem

Hi everyone,
Having an issue my gas gauge in my 72 Cutlass is not working! So i dropped the tank cleaned it out put in a new sending unit and also connected the ground and its still not working. Im not sure what the deal is any information i would greatly appreciate. I heard i might have a wire in the trunk not connected but im not sure. Thank you all and HAPPY HOLIDAYS

Do you have an ohmmeter available? What is the measurment from the sending unit wire to ground?

Have you had the gauge itself out yet? When you say not working, what does it do? Does it point to the 3 o clock position?

Had the same situation on a 'vette I worked on - find the ground wire, and clean or replace it!

I had the same problem a couple years ago, here is the way to check your gauge and the way I fix my issue.

ok i found out i needed to connect the postive brown wire to the top of the sending unit i purchased the wire connected it and now when the gauge is empty it says its 1/2 and now half a tank is on the F (full)... a mechanic friend of mine connected grounded the postive brown wire he said it should of read empty so he thinks the something wrong with the gauge itself.
