Starting problem-shift linkage?

On my conversion from bench to bucket, I changed out the steering column.
Now I am having problems starting the car. If I hold the key engaged and roll the shift slightly around, the car will eventually start. Is there some adjustment I can make on the shift linkage or is the problem elsewhere such as a bad starter?

I would check and see if the neutral safety switch is adjusted correctly first. Standard or automatic trans?? ---bil

X2 If you're turning the steering column shift bowl and it starts.
Did you put a console in and change to a floor shift column?
If so, did you put the back linkage in to the the steering column to operate the neutral safety switch/reverse lights and lock the shifter with the steering column?

If not, never mind.

If its just not shifting far enough into park i would say you need to adjust the linkage. i had friends switch trans in cars and they would only start if they pulled up on the shift linkage
