455 starter

455 starter
Have a starter question for you all. Hope I didn't jump the gun. Came across a brand new starter for a 455 and was hoping I could use it for my 350. Wasn't a starter on the 350 I have, and this new starter is a 9 tooth. Does a 166 ring gear work?
Thanks

Except for output and input power, the starter for big-block and small-blocks are the same. Toronado is different because it bolts to the bellhousing on the right side. Diesel is different because the flywheel is slightly smaller diameter. But the gasoline RWD vehicles use the same nose-cone. (Same as Pontiac, too.)
The side of the starter field coil case may or may not be drilled for the OEM starter brace. You'll want the original-style brace.

The wires will install exactly the same. "R" terminal wire (if used) goes to the "R" terminal. "S" terminal wire goes to the "S" terminal. Bigass battery cable, and any small wires with a bigass ring terminal go to the bigass lug.
