Two electrical questions

Hello everyone,

I have a 67 Vista Cruiser.

First,
I'm looking to install a Patronix ignition in and need to remove the resistor wire. When I turn on the ignition I only see 6 volts at the coil so I definitely have a resistor wire. So I read up on it and disconnected the plug at the firewall (the right side one of the two) and figured I could just ring out the wire back to the coil to figure out what post it is. Well just about half of the posts ring out to the positive terminal of the coil. So then I thought, he turn on the ignition and one of them should read 12 volts. Well, 3 of them do that. So I turn off the ignition to see if the three o back to 0 volts. Nope! They all still read 12 volts! What the heck? So, can anyone tell me what post on the connector is the one that is the resistor wire?

Second, My dome light dose not turn on with the doors or the light switch. I have taken the dome apart and there it 12 volts to the light and if I round it, it lights up. So something is wrong with the ground wire. I can feel that the harness goes to the passenger side through the headliner but then I loose the wire as the headliner pulls away from the body. Can anyone tell me how this wire round wire is routed back to the door and headlight switch?

Thanks,

Jim

Also, I have seen the link for http://wildaboutcarsonline.com but can't seem to find the vault link to et the wire diagrams.

You need to disconnect the wire at the coil to ring it back to the bulkhead connector. An easy way to get voltage to your coil is to run a wire from the ign terminal in the fuse box to the coil. Then just stow the old resistor wire. You may need to use the bypass wire that is crimped in the same terminal as the resistor wire that runs from the starter.

The dome light wire runs to the passenger door switch then to the headlight switch and drivers side switch. They are all hooked in parallel and supply the ground to light the light.

I checked the door switched and the headlight switch and they all have single wires coming from them that run into the main harness. I'm still not sure how the dome light grond gets to the main harness. I will probably have to pull the floor mat tosee where it come from.

The dome light ground gets to the harness through the pin switches mounted in the door frame and the white wire on the headlight switch. The dome light power (orange) and ground (white) wires get to the dome light through the body harness that runs under the carpet to the rear of the car. That harness also carries the tail light, backup light, license plate light, and fuel gauge wiring.

Have you considered looking at the schematic in the Chassis Service Manual?

Eric,

Yes, but I don't have the schematic. I saw on other posts there was link to it, but I had no success in getting it from that link. Are the schematics posted somewhere?

Thanks,
Jim

All Chassis Service Manuals have color schematics.

If you don't have one, then either someone cut them out, or you bought a CSM on a CD, which consists of incomplete, poor-quality scans of an actual manual.
I n either case, the solution is to buy an original CSM, so that you can read it and understand it.
There are plenty on eBay.

Meanwhile, here's the schematic:

Good luck!
