Hello I am working on a 197 cutlass convertible. I found these two wires, under the hood at the fuse box, loose. The dark purple one on to and the beige wire with the yellow connecter on it. I attached the connector, trying to see if any lights on the dash came on, but i got nothing. Can anyone give me some advise what these two wires might be? Thank you for reading my problem

 

The purple wire probably goes to the starter solenoid S terminal, the wire with the butt connector is probably the resistance wire that runs to the coil + terminal.

 

that is what I was thinking. But Im always second guessing myself. But thank you very much for your input.

 

OC is correct. I am in the process of installing a newer fuse panel and the wire with the hugely oversized butt connector is the resister wire for the coil. If you need a new one, the one I removed is completely intact end to end. I pulled it put of the bulkhead connector cleanly and the other end still has the factory coil connector and yellow starter wire on it. PM me if you want it and we can work out the details.
