wiper switch weird

Hi guys,
I am having a problem with my windshield wipers. They function great, but only when i turn the ignition in the accessory position. They do not work when I turn the ignition forward or when the car is running. Don't think I'll pass inspection until I fix this problem.
Any ideas what cold cause this?
Thanks

First time I heard of this kind of issue. What car and year?
Does the radio do the same thing? It runs off the accy terminal of the ignition switch also.
HAs the wiring been hacked by a previous owner?
If the radio acts the same and no hacks are evident, I suspect an internal contact in the ignition switch may have failed.

Rob, it's a 72 Cutlass S

Centonze, this troubleshooting is on page 12-46 of the 72 Chassis Service manual. Have a look: http://wildaboutcarsonline.com/membe...ection_12B.pdf

Thanks, i'm going to check the internal contact in the ignition switch. The wipers worked correctly until recently. I haven't fiddled with the wiring.
Thank you, i will post when i find out.

If it helps any, I had a similar problem with my 83. Only the washer and wipers wouldn't shut off! Right on the highway. Drained my washer fluid in about 2 miles. Had to pull over and disconnect the wipers connection. Hooked it back up to see if it would 'reset'. Nope. Ended up replacing the wiper motor. Suspect you might be in the same boat leaving a different port.
