What is a distributor-type inductive ignition system?

I have a 69 cutlass 350. It has a stock points distributor. I bought a pertronix flamethrower coil from summit part#40001. Max volt 40,000. Reading the box it says "replaces most canister type coils in distributor-type inductive ignition systems. Not suitable for capacitive discharge or distributor less systems". I'm wondering now what that means. Is this only for use with a breakerless system or will thisworkin my distributor?

Your stock ignition system is a "distributor-type inductive ignition system". You have a distributor (thus, "distributor-type") and induction is how the coil works. Don't overthink this.
