Led lights and flashers
Led lights and flashers
Any one have a proven set up to run 1157 LED bulbs for turn signals and brake light for 1968-1970 cutlass. Have read a lot of the threads to no avail. I changed out the flashers with parts recommended from superbright LED"S and they still do not function. Have a 536 flasher for signals and a signal stat 170 for the hazard.
Thanks
Thanks
I've used Amazon-sourced 1157 LED projector bulbs on several of my cars with no issues. So far I've only put them in the rear, keeping the incandescents in the front. I am currently using the original electromechanical flasher module in all of them. On my 62 wagon, these have been in the car for about ten years now.
Joe, thanks for that link. I've been wanting to replace the 1157 (specifically) rear bulbs in my '71 CS but my 1° concern was would my current electromechanical flasher module work after replacement. I suspect these bulbs should work on a '71 CS, as well. That's a very sweet price, BTW.
I was able to replace all my bulbs in my 1969 Cutlass with LED bulbs from superbrightleds.com. Here is what I found out in order to make them to work. After trying another recommended flasher and it not working due to my Cutlass using a positive ground for the flasher, I ended up using the United Pacific flasher #90652 with their polarity reversing base for both my units. I made sure I found a good ground for the wire coming off the flasher. Also due to the base of the bulbs hitting the reflectors or the lenses in my car, I had to change to the following bulbs from superbrightleds.com and not what they recommended. The front parking/turn signal bulbs are now 1157-A51-PT. The license plate bulb is a 67-CW12-G. And finally the back up bulbs are 1156-CW51-PTAC.
On a side note, I also replaced all my dash lights. Even though the bulbs say they are dimmable they do not dim until the very end of the travel from my switch. The dimming issue does not bug me, due to I always have my dash lights set to the brightest setting as possible. I am impressed with the overall way the LED bulbs make my car be seen at night and how the dash is very visible for me to read. I was always paranoid with someone rear-ending me because no seem to see cars without the third brake light anymore.
