How to change ignition switch

could you possibly tell me how you replaced the ignition? I have a 72 442, and I pulled steering wheel and removed turn signal mech, and nothing I could do would release the cylinder.

Cool, thank you!

drentz - You removed the 2 retaining screws? Or were there no screws?

If there were no screws, it may be the type where there's a window you have to knock out and push a spring loaded retainer. Do you have the new lock? Look at the end and see if it has a spring loaded retainer.

If you have a pic, that would be good.

I did remove the screws, and they done nothing. I did hear something about knocking a hole in the column, but I really didn't want to do that. I do have the new cylinder, and it does have some kind of spring loaded mech like you speak of.

You will have to make the hole, it's no big deal, it's just metal "flash". Let me find the info..........this is deeper than you want to go...http://www.buickperformanceclub.com/...lumnwobble.htm The pic above the cylinder, the white arrow at the top right, it's that slot you need open. You can do it with a small screwdriver, it's easy.

You should pull the buzzer switch, too, BEFORE you pull the cylinder. Once that slot is open, you will be right over the tang to push in. Push it, and pull the cyl out.

I ASSUME you are talking about replacing the LOCK CYLINDER. The switch is at the base of the steering column and is operated by a rod from the lock cylinder.
