Hei

Am I correct in thinking that I don't need the resistance wire coming from firewall that would go to the coil with my new HEI? Thanks again for any advice.

Correct but you do need 12v to the hei + terminal on the cap so you will need to run a wire or find one that is powered with ignition switch on.

The 3 wire plug that runs from the cap into the body of the distributer is left alone, its there to remove the cap. You need a 2 prong plug like this the red wire is power and the green is for a tach.
