Door jam light switch

I have a 70 olds cutlass and I changed the door jam switch. Well I initially took it out while waiting on the one to come. When it came I opened the door and all the lights were out. I charged the battery and it crunk right up. Well the I installed the new one the battery is still not holding a charge. Anyone ever had this problem? It was all metal and the new one has a plastic end.

I used this switch when I changed mine on my 70 convertible. It is metal with a plastic end but it matched my original. Everything works like it should. https://www.ebay.com/itm/161349712552

This is the exact one I have. I was thinking it had to to with changing from a metal end to a plastic end.
