Dim dash lights

1964 Jetstar 88.
My dash lights are really dim. A couple years ago i tried a new headlight switch, it did not work. Where do i start. Could it be a ground?

As stated, it may be the bulbs.
What is the charging voltage?
Try running a temporary ground jumper up to the cluster.

Good luck!!!

Change the bulbs might have 25+ years worth of dust on them. Clean lens too for same reason.

1 speedometer

3 Glove box
4 fuel gauge
5 ash tray
do i need to pyll the warning light cluster assuming there would be 4 bulbs for gen oil hot cold.

I changed all of mine last year. My service manual lists what bulbs and how many. Somewhere I learned of this company that their bulbs are brighter, I didn't see much of a difference but at least they are all working. https://www.jacksonelectricsupply.com/
You can't beat the price.

Follow/study the electrical schematic in the book and you'll see the locations and or look at the exploded view of the dashboard.

168 or 194 miniature bulbs should work in everything except possibly the clock. Trying to remember what bulb the ignition switch lamp uses. A J88 may not have it.

What manual are you using? 30-31-32 series are Cutlass. A Jetstar 88 is 33 series and will use the same lamps and dashboard as the other full-size cars- Dynamic 88 and Jetstar 1 (34), Super 88 (35), Starfire (36) and Ninety Eight (38).

I might be completely off-base here, but a lot of the cars of the 60s era had headlight switches that also acted as a rheostat for the dash lights...rotate the dash switch to the left, the dash lights get brighter...rotate the dash switch to the right, the dash lights get dimmer to completely extinguished. Is that a possible cause for your dim dash lights?

On the other hand, I know the dash lights on my '68 and '69 4-4-2 convertibles don't seem as bright as they used to be and can be hard to read, even at night at full brilliancy. Even the gauges, and especially the tach, seem hard to read at times even in full daylight. I'm thinking it's just my old eyes!

I looked my service manual and can't find where I got my information from as far as the base and count. I might have found it in the owner's manual. I don't know if your book shows this;

You need to find out what base you have.
