Diagnose old distributor cap/rotor

Just did a tune-up, replaced cap & rotor... this is what was lurking





I don't know the age/mileage of the one I took off, but that can't be "normal" wear & tear right? I don't want that to happen to the new one I put on!

x2 on the coil... I have been there, yours actually looks better than the one I had from PO.... Ran MUCH better after!

The spring wore out and then the contact arced on the rotor creating heat and meltage. The coil is probably still good if it's not melted around the contact point.

replace it now, or replace it shortly... you Will likely be replacing it soon!

if the coil center contact isn't burned, corroded, or otherwise damaged, run it.
