burnt coil

burnt coil

Ihave a 1983 hurst olds 307 h/o just put a new coil and distributor cap on

about 300 miles ago comeing back from car show car quit running thought it was fuel pump got home found new coil had burnt wire comeing out of coil

replaced coil has been working fine I figured it was bad from the factory has
any one else ever had this happen? thanks for any replys

Which wire?

And if the wire was burnt why did you replace the coil and not the wire?

I'd say a loose connection caused high resistance and fried the wire. or the button on the bottom was worn out.

Are you talking about one of the three low-voltage wires from the coil to the terminals in the cap? If so, I've seen these get pinched when the coil cover was installed if they are not routed carefully. This can damage the insulation and lead to arcing to the ground bar that's in the same general area.
