Convertible top motor question?

Ok, so my top now will trip the circuit breaker 2-3 times per cycle. I notice the hydralic side of the pump was leaking (big reservoir o ring) and resealed it. No improvement. Is it safe to assume that the elecrical side of the motor now needs a rebuild? Motor seems hot after cycling, but then again I never checked it before. Everything worked fine last summer. Any ideas or previous experiences? It is 67 442

could be loss of fluid and motor is working too hard, could be bad connections, have you taken the switch out and cleaned off the points that touch?

How does the motor sound? How fast does the top move? It should go down in 10-15 seconds (add up all the operation times it takes for yours).
If these seem normal, you might want to either replace the circuit breaker, or use an inline ammeter to measure the exact current draw. Some breakers get weak or defective over time.

If the top moves slow or the motor is loud or strange sounding, then check all the joints for binding first. Blockages in the hydraulic circuit could be possible, too.

convertible top & motor system always gives me problems. 2 years ago i had a leak in one hydraulic cylinder, replaced it. then last year the lingake decided to bind up one day when i was putting it down and it bent one of the side rails which i had to reshape and repair. now, the motor just doesn't work. i havn't checked the fuses yet or the connections, but i tried to just put it down last weekend and noticed the motor wasn't working, so i added "check top motor connections and fuse" to my list of things to do, maybe this weekend. it never ends....pretty soon the bullet will be bit and i'll do a new motor, new hydraulics & new lines. maybe $500 will solve the problem:-)

kinda funny...the thread for convertible owners!!! convertible top = something else to break

But convertible top (down) = so much fun!!

Luckily Lady's cyliners and lines were replaced by the previous owner. The pump is original I think...
