I've been looking for the answer to this all day. Nothing online and nothing in the CSM that I can find.
I want to test my blower motor before I put the inner wheel well back in but can't figure out how to hook it up. Purple wire is the power feed (through resistor) but where do I ground it? I'm using the charged car battery for juice and jumper cables off an old battery charger. I watched Rob's video but I can't make out the connection.

I believe the housing is the ground. (not unlike a horn)

 

So, power from bat to resistor. Negative bat lead to housing? I'll try it.

Okay, got it. Power from batter to resistor but ground from batter to resistor housing. So is that what I screw the ground strap to for installation, the resistor mounting screw? I'll get a pic in a sec.

Ground comes through a short cable from the firewall nearby, see image. Obviously the plastic/fibre air duct is not ground.

Yes, "to here". And make sure it's really bare metal on ring of wire, new painted fan housing and all parts.

also make sure it'll stay that way.

I was about to cut a hole in my inner fender but decided to rip it all apart again when the ground rattled loose after 2 days....

 

Can't blame you for wanting to cut a hole. I don't want to go through this again. Motor tested fine but I found a bad leak. Seems the caulk fell out of place when I was putting the box back on. Of course it was right against the inner fender. Nothing like caulking with a screwdriver
