Angry 73 Delta88, accidentally hooked up battery backwards.

I was trying to jump start my 1973 Olds Delta 88 and the cables got hooked up backwards. Now nothing works. There is no fuse marked ignition or starter on the under dash panel. Where else should I look and what would have fried?

First check the battery itself. If it tests OK then look around the junction block/horn relay and see if it fried a fuse link. It will be on the fenderwell or firewall. I expect you've fried the alternator and possibly the radio. Maybe the starter and solenoid.

Do you have a 1973 Olds factory service manual? If not get one. You'll need the wiring diagrams.

The fusible link should be in the wire that runs from the threaded stud on the horn relay to the fuse panel. The fusible part should be 16 gauge black wire for a couple of inches out from the stud, then at the cylindrical splice it is connected to the 10 gauge red wire that runs to the firewall connector. This 10 gauge wire also branches out under the dash and feeds the ignition switch and the headlight switch. Test for power on the STOP and TAIL fuses. If you find none, the fuse link is the problem. Note that this photo is representative and not from a 1973 Delta.

Joe, I love it when troubleshooting is simplified!
Most people's eye ballz roll back into their heads and they start drooling during troubleshooting. Put it in laymen's terms and it makes sense to the masses.

Check voltage at stop n tails. YES or NO...KISS.

Try that on late model, NOT!
